How does Popcorn Detector work?
Popcorn Detector uses your phone's microphone to listen to the popping sounds from your microwave. It analyzes the audio in real-time using advanced sound detection algorithms. When the frequency of pops slows down significantly, it alerts you that it's time to stop the microwave — preventing burnt popcorn.
Is it safe to put my phone near a microwave?
Yes, it's completely safe. Microwave ovens are fully shielded with metal casing and a sealed door that keeps all electromagnetic radiation inside. Your phone sits outside the microwave, where no radiation reaches it. Place your phone 30-50 cm from the microwave door for best results.
Does Popcorn Detector work with any microwave?
Yes! Popcorn Detector works with any microwave oven. The app listens to the popping sounds, which are the same regardless of your microwave brand or model. Just place your phone near the microwave door and start listening.
Do I need to install an app?
No installation required! Popcorn Detector works directly in your web browser. However, you can optionally install it as a Progressive Web App (PWA) on your phone for quick access from your home screen. It works offline too!
Is Popcorn Detector free?
Yes, Popcorn Detector is 100% free to use. No account required, no hidden fees, no ads. Just open the website and start detecting!
Why is my popcorn still burning?
Make sure your phone is placed 30-50 cm from the microwave door, not blocked by objects. The microphone needs to clearly hear the popping sounds. Also ensure your browser has microphone permission enabled. If pops are very quiet in your microwave, try placing the phone closer.
Can I use Popcorn Detector on my computer?
Yes! Popcorn Detector works on any device with a microphone and a web browser — including laptops, tablets, and desktop computers. Just make sure the microphone can pick up the popping sounds from your microwave.
What browsers are supported?
Popcorn Detector works on all modern browsers including Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge. It requires Web Audio API support, which is available in all browsers released after 2020.
